1. Scope

1.1 This test method describes a method for determining the reducibility of natural and processed iron ores under specific conditions.

NOTE 1--This test method is not applicable to iron ores containing volatile materials not expelled during drying at 105°C, or constituents other than iron oxides that may react with the reducing gas mixture (particularly manganese oxides or free carbon), or that may thermally decompose (certain carbonates) under the test conditions imposed.

1.2 This standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
