This specification covers electric motor driven Navy standard close-coupled, single stage, centrifugal pumps. It is the intention of this specification that pumps of a given capacity in gallons per minute (g.p.m.) and total dynamic head in feet and type of electrical voltage, from all sources of supply, be interchangeable as to mounting dimensions, size and location of piping connections, shaft extension, shaft sleeve, and flinger as outlined in this specification.

The Navy standard pump numbers under this specification have the letter "N" added, for example, 9N, to distinguish the pumps covered hereunder from those under the earlier editions of this specification.
