Purpose. This regulation establishes the Army portion of the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program (10 U.S.C. chap. 105). Scholarships are available for students in courses at accredited institutions leading to a graduate degree in medicine, osteopathy, veterinary medicine, optometry, psychology (Ph.D. level), or other disciplines designated by The Surgeon General (TSG). The number of students in each discipline is based on allocations established by DoD directives and on Army needs for officers qualified in these disciplines. Selections, based on the Army's Affirmative Action Plan to obtain qualified personnel for each field of study, are made by selection boards appointed by TSG.
Applicability. Policies and procedures apply to civilian and military applicants to include Army National Guard (ARNG) and Army Reserve (USAR) personnel.
