This specification establishes the performance design, Development, firing, packaging and quality assurance requirements for a type of 7.62 millimeter (MM) gas operated, air cooled, link belt fed, light weight machine gun furnished with one spare interchangeable barrel assembly in carrying case and one ruptured cartridge case extractor. This machine gun is for use primarily as a coaxial weapon in tank or other vehicle applications. Both a left hand direction of feed model (M240) and right hand direction of feed model (M240C) are covered by this specification. Applicability of portions of the specification is dependent upon the model specified in the contract.
