This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.

The complete requirements for procuring the cords described herein shall consist of this document and the latest issue of specification MIL-C-3849.

Materials and construction -

First - An uncoated tinsel wire conductor, type I per MIL-W-3795.

Second - A separator applied over the tinsel wire conductor.

Third - SBR insulation, type IS-L per MIL-I-3930.

Fourth - A staycord.*

Fifth - Fillers, if necessary, to make a circular cross-section.*

Sixth - The required number of insulated tinsel wire conductors twisted around a staycord, with the length of lay as specified in table I.*

Seventh - A close binder applied over the cabled tinsel wire conductors.

Eighth - A polychloroprene jacket, type JN-L per MIL-I-3930, applied over the cabled tinsel wire conductors.

Applicable tests Materials inspection. Continuity. Visual and dimensional inspection. DC resistance. Dielectric withstanding voltage. Breaking load (see table I). Insulation resistance, 200 megohms - Cold bend at −55°C. ± 2°C. 1,000 ft., min. Sea-water resistance.
