scope:
This draft European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) sets out the minimum performance requirements and technical characteristics of Mobile Earth Stations (MES) with both transmit and receive capabilities for operation in a Satellite Personal Communication Network (S-PCN).
MES equipment may be handheld, portable or vehicle mounted. MES equipment may be self-contained as a single-unit or it may consist of a number of modules with associated connections and user-interface.
The MES may be a component of a multi-mode mobile terminal. Unless otherwise stated in this ETS, this standard only applies to the MES component of a multi-mode terminal.
The requirements of this ETS are divided in two categories:
- unwanted emissions limits to protect terrestrial and other satellite radio services from harmful interference generated by the MES in normal use;
- a minimum set of Control and Monitoring Functions (CMF) implemented in each MES in order to minimise the probability that they originate unwanted transmissions which may give rise to harmful interference to other systems.
Network Control Facilities (NCF) for MES networks are defined in ETS 300 735 [1].
