INTRODUCTION
Part Two consists of information and advice to the designers of Service equipment on corrosion and its prevention. It starts with an outline of the elementary theory of corrosion and a description of the various forms corrosion can take. Protectives are then discussed in relation to types of equipment and environment, and recommendations are made for the protection of the full range of engineering metais.
The advice and recommendations are primarily for the designer of equipment exposed to the atmosphere. Corrosion and protection problems in plant, (e.g. boilers, heat exchangers, pipelines, and chemical plant) are touched on but lightly; for these, specialist documents should be consulted, e.g.:
BR 1254 'The corrosion of sea water cooling systems in HM Ships'
BR 1335 'The boiler corrosion and water treatment'
Wrapping and packaging are important aspects of protection against atmospheric corrosion, but are not considered here as they are fully covered in DG-11 and DEF-1234-A.
