MECHANICAL equipment is one of the major sources of sound in a building. Therefore, the sound generated by mechanical equipment and its effects on the overall acoustical environment in a building must be considered. Mechanical equipment should be selected and equipment spaces designed with an emphasis on both the intended uses of the equipment and the goal of providing acceptable sound and vibration levels in occupied spaces of the building in which the equipment is located.
