This Standard describes a system for identification of the manufacturer of an electronic component or equipment through the manufacturer's marking the product with a series of numbers not exceeding eight digits known as the EIA Source and Date Code. When a manufacturer so requests, the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) assigns a one to four digit Source Code to the manufacturer. EIA additionally provides a scheme for standardization of the calender year and week in a Date Code.
