scope:
This specification relates to vinyl silk emulsion paint with fungicidal properties based on polyvinyl and/or acrylic homo- or co-polymer resins suitable for the decoration of the interiors of buildings. Paints to this specification are available in a limited number of colours chosen from those in BS 4800. The paint shall be capable of being applied by brushing or rolling after the addition of up to 10% of water by volume.
It is not expected to be used either as a cure in severe cases of mould growth, or where dampness or hygiene demands a heavy duty coating.
The paint system for new surfaces will normally consist of one sealing coat followed by one finishing coat. On excessively absorbent surfaces it may be necessary to use a paint system of one sealing coat followed by two finishing coats. The sealing coat will normally be obtained by thinning the paint as supplied with up to 20% water by volume.
The coating should retain good decorative appearance and effective mould resistance for 4 years in situations where, in the absence of fungicidal properties, light mould growth may develop.
