This specification consists of two sections. The first section covers requirements for heavy phosphate coatings applied to ferrous metal articles. The second section is the appendix which covers requirements for qualification of phosphate coating solutions, and for Government purchase of phosphating solutions, Light phosphate coatings for use as a paint base are not included in this specification.
intended Use:
The phosphate coatings covered by this specification are " heavy" coatings. Light phosphate coatings used as a paint base are covered by other specifications, such as specification MIL-C-490.
