inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 April 2000
Status: inactive
Page Count: 58
scope:

This NES specifies the requirements for the periodic inspection, cleaning, hydraulic testing, preservation of 106 litre and 258 litre cylinders for the storage of air and nitrogen at pressures up to 276 bar.

This NES is applicable to Naval Standard cylinders fitted or to be fitted to HM Surface Ships, RFAs, RMAS and Submarines.

NOTE: Cylinders fitted in UK shore establishments may conform to these requirements but will be subject to inspection, test and maintenance requirements as defined by the 'Pressure Systems and Transportable Gas Containers Regulations, 1989' under written scheme of examination prepared by a 'Competent' person, appointed by that establishment. Cylinders fitted in overseas shore establishments may also comply but will be subject to the Health and Safety Regulations of the host nation.

This NES does not specify the requirements for the design, manufacture, storage and installation of these cylinders, these are contained in NES 317.

This NES does not apply to cylinders used to contain gases other than air or nitrogen. For these, other additional purity requirements may apply, and MOD guidance is to be sought on the procedures to be adopted.
