This Standard aims at achieving maximum practicable uniformity in the use of symbols for naval architectural technical writing and to permit a clear understanding of such technical writing among the nations participating in ABCA-NAVSTAG-30C.

This Standard is intended to ensure that all persons responsible for the preparation of naval architectural technical writings are informed of the standard symbols defined in Table (i) to (vii) and to:

Prohibit the introduction and use of symbols which have not been approved. (Note: The symbols contained in the Tables have been appraved at the 15th International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) held at The Hague, Netherlands, 1978 and the Navy Field Z 30th Collaborating Authorities Conference, 1981)
