INTRODUCTION

In DGDQA Special Bulletins (1/90) and (1/91) details were given of changes in MOD policies relating to Quality Assessment resulting from developments in the accreditation activities of the National Accreditation Council for Certification Bodies (NACCB). Notice was given that these changes, requiring suppliers of products or services for which there is a Quality Control/ Inspection requirement to obtain appropriate certification from an NACCB accredited Third Party Certification Body, would come into effect from 1 September 1991.

Special Bulletin (1/90) also stated that for a transitional period HOD contracts would continue to require compliance with the quality control requirements of Allied Quality Assurance Publications (AQAPs) 1, 4, 9 and 13 according to the defence materiel or services being purchased.. This situation has now been reviewed and it has been decided that with effect from 1 November 1991 MOD will base its contractual and surveillance activities on the ISO 9000 series of Quality Standards.
