This NES contains the policy for providing normal and emergency access into and within a surface ship. Details of all access fittings and equipments eg doors and hatches are in accordance with NES 127.

This NES does not cover the policy to be followed in order to provide designated removal routes for equipment/machinery replacement or repair. This policy is laid down in NES 302.

This NES includes the requirement to implement the cellularity policy to provide adequately sized accesses on routes designated for the passage of the weapon equipment transport envelope.
