INTRODUCTION

This study was undertaken to estimate the chronic and acute toxicity of effluent from four treatment processes. Refinery effluent was exposed to processes involving combinations of biotreatment, air stripping, and activated carbon treatment. Four toxicity tests were conducted on each effluent using Pimephales promelas (acute and chronic tests), Daphnia pulex (acute tests only), and Ceriodaphnia dubia (chronic tests only).

Based on the results of these tests, an additional series of chronic and acute tests using the same organisms was performed on one of the effluents (see below) collected at a later date.

All raw data generated during the study are stored at TRAC Laboratories, 113 Cedar St., Denton, TX 76201.
