Purpose of the Model Study
Several plans were proposed by the St. Louis District for the improvement and stabilization of the navigation channel in his reach. Due to the complex nature of the processes that shape alluvial rivers and the intricate threedimensional flow through a bend, a three-dimensional analytical evaluation of the effects of the proposed plans would have been extremely difficult, expensive, and inconclusive. Accordingly, a hydraulic model study was undertaken to obtain some indication of the effectiveness of the various proposed river training structure plans.
