This standard specifies the minimum required performance of shock attenuation and penetration resistance of military aircrew helmets. The scope of this standard includes the requirements and methods of test for shock absorption and penetration resistance. For each test the principle and apparatus requirement are stated as well as the test procedure. Also included are requirements and methods for pre-conditioning prior to testing.
This standard is intended for qualification testing only.
The standard relates to the protection provided by protective helmets used in military aircraft. Two types of helmet are specified; Type E for use in aircraft equipped with ejection seats, and Type S for aircraft equipped with static seats.
This Defence Standard specifies shock attenuation and penetration resistance requirements for military aircrew helmets. It pertains to two different helmet types: Type E for use in ejection seat aircraft, and Type S for use in static seat aircraft.
The standard relates solely to the impact protection which must be afforded by military helmets.
