Preformed tape sealants are tacky, deformable solids, that are used under compression between two or more substrates, in various sealing applications where the surfaces may be of similar or dissimilar materials. This procedure measures the tensile strength of the preformed tape sealant. It also provides an indication of the cohesive nature and adhesive bonding properties of the preformed tape sealant. This procedure is not intended to simulate actual use conditions.View Less
1.1 This test method covers a laboratory procedure for determining the tensile adhesive strength of a preformed tape sealant. The type of failure can be determined, and the degree of cohesive/adhesive failure can be estimated.
1.2 The values stated in metric (SI) units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are provided for information purposes only.
1.3 The subcommittee with jurisdiction is not aware of any similar ISO standard.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
