This specification relates to a low-lead general purpose priming paint for the protection of steel under all conditions of outdoor weathering.
A single coat of this paint applied to clean bare steel at a dry film thickness of 25 pm is expected to protect the metal against corrosion for a period of not less than 12 months in all natural environments. With rough steel surfaces, or where the surface preparation increases the profile significantly eg grit-blasted surfaces, two or more coats will be required.
Normally the paint shall be pigmented to have a colour approximately matching colour number 216 in BS 381C, but in cases of additional coats being required for protection, the use of colour number 358 and colour number 627 in BS 381C is permissible.
