1.1 The purpose of these practices is to provide criteria for chamber and manlock design, as well as information concerning mechanical, life-support, control, communications and emergency systems, and associated medical facilities.

1.2 In addition to design criteria, guidelines for the proper operation of these facilities are set forth. Such guidelines are based on the considerable experience accumulated to date by the manned test operations conducted by various facilities as part of the Gemini and Apollo programs.

1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
