Purpose

This document. sets forth the basic requirements for an Inertial Navigation System which provides sensor and steering computation specifically designed for installation in commercial transport-type aircraft . This system employs inertial sensing techniques and provides outputs for aircraft attitude, present position, and steering signals suitable for operating the pilots instruments and the INS Display Unit. The basic INS System provides compete self-contained horizontal navigation capability intended to serve as the sole means of navigation on a world-wide basis.

This document is intended to provide design guidance for the development. and installation of INS Systems in installations primarily intended for airline use.
