MODUK - DEF STAN 01-2: PART 2

Guide to Engineering Alloys Used in Navy Service: Data Sheets Part 2: Non Ferrous Alloys (NF)

Introduction

0.1 The purpose of this Defence Standard is to make generally available the physical, mechanical, corrosion and other properties of engineering alloys which may be considered for corrosion resistant duties under marine conditions.

0.2 This Defence Standard is sponsored by the Procurement Executive, MOD Chief Naval Architect, CNA, Section NA 132. It provides information, in the form of data sheets, intended primarily for the use of designers, engineers and draughtsmen, and it is hoped that it will assist design studies and reduce recurrent service failures.

0.3 Corrosion resistance of alloys is often insufficiently understood by users and it has seemed desirable to comment in greater length on the various ways in which corrosion damage becomes evident in service, together with the relevant factors controlling such damage.

0.4 It is emphasized that the data sheets are for guidance only and that they give typical properties which may be expected from an alloy. Maximum value will only be obtained from these data sheets if all materials on drawings are related to an individual specification and not merely referred to by name.
