MODUK - DG-8: INTRODUCTION
Defence Guide Treatments for the Protection of Metal Parts of Service Stores and Equipments Against Corrosion
| Organization: | MODUK |
| Publication Date: | 1 April 1974 |
| Status: | active |
| Page Count: | 1 |
scope:
The Guide covers the protection of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, e.g. by metallic, conversion, paint, varnish and lacquer coatings, temporary protectives and electro-chemical processes, which assist in combating metal corrosion.
It also makes reference to documents relating to the cleaning and pre-treatment of metals prior to the application of a surface finish; to the packaging and testing of components after a corrosion prevention treatment has been applied, and to design factors which may also play an important part in preventing corrosion.
The Guide does not deal with treatments applied solely for engineering or decorative purposes.
Purpose
The purpose of this Guide, which is in loose-leaf form, is:
(a) to assemble in one document information from specifical.ms for the protection of metals against corrosion,
(b) to allocate specific reference numbers to each grade of protective treatment. These numbers are then available for quotation on work instructions, drawings etc.,
(c) to give advice to designers on corrosion and its prevention.
The Guide is intended for use in conjunction with, but not to supersede, existing design documents. Where there is no existing design document, full use shall be made of the Guide
It is strongly recommended that the full specifications are studied to obtain an appreciation of their scope and requirements.
