This material supplied under this specification is intended to be used for hand-wipe cleaning of most aluminum, titanium, steel, and magnesium aircraft, and other aircraft component surfaces prior to painting, sealing, and non-structural adhesive bonding. The hand-wipe solvents are not intended to be sprayed, misted, or atomized in any manner; the solvents are intended to be poured or squirted onto wipe cloths for hand-wipe cleaning applications. The solvents are military unique since they are proven to clean a surface to the extent that will provide superior adhesion of coatings and sealants required for high performance military aircraft.

Class A and B wipe solvents are not approved for use onboard United States Navy ships. Type II solvent is excluded from the definition of VOC and is listed in the EPA's regulation 40 CFR 51.100. VOC exempt refers to organic compounds that do not participate in atmospheric photochemical reactivity. The VOC definition in the 40 CFR 51.100(s) is subject to change.
