This standard establishes definitions for the words, terms, and expressions peculiar to the general field of optics, except as detailed in 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 below.

The uniform definitions, nomenclature, classification of defects, methods of testing, and measurements pertaining to the field of photographic lenses are contained in MIL-STD-150.

The terms and definitions related to the fields of physiological and ophthalmological optics should be derived from medical text books or Webster's International Dictionary.

It is anticipated that this standard be used primarily, but not exclusively, by those nondesigning personnel who must be cognizant of and conversant with optical terminology.
