This Standard relates to an air-drying paint suitable for use as a finishing coat on interior steel, aluminium and aluminium alloy surfaces of ships. The paint is suitable for use as a protective and fire-retardant coating which will not propagate fire due to the transmission of heat through metalwork (eg ship's bulkheads, etc). It is required to withstand repeated washing down.

The paint is normally applied by brushing over primer to DEF STAN 80-77, but exceptionally it may be sprayed after suitable thinning with white spirit complying with BS 245.
