The standard specifies the criteria with which gas lighters, essentially designed for igniting cigarettes, cigars and pi pes, are to comply in order to offer the user a reasonable g uarantee of safety when used in a normal and non-abusive way , taking into account the present state of the technology wi thout however limiting future development. The standard also includes methods of tests and specifies the criterias to ma rking, instructions and warnings
