This Standard states the requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, test and setting to work of the sea water system in surface ships.

The sea water system described comprises:

The High Pressure Sea Water system (HPSW)

The Low Pressure Sea Water system (LPSW)

The HPSW system includes requirements for:

Fire fighting

Magazine spraying

Prewetting

Domestic

Salvage, ballasting and deballasting

Cooling of essential machinery/equipment

The above systems are described to the branch isolation valve only. 

The LPSW system includes requirements for the supply of cooling sea water to main and auxiliary machinery and other components such as shaft seals etc.
