This Standard specifies requirements for the packaging of secondary batteries of the types listed in Def Stan 61-9 to Military Levels P, N and J (equivalent to NATO Levels 4, 3 and 2 respectively). It includes all items with a Primary Packaged Quantity (PPQ) of one.

The following items are covered by this Standard:

(a) batteries, secondary, lead acid, fully absorbed electrolyte, uncharged and all dry and wet charged lead acid batteries.

Note: Wet charged lead acid batteries may contain a small residue of liquid electrolyte.

(b) batteries, secondary, alkaline nickel cadmium, filled and discharged.

This Standard does not include the packaging of lead acid batteries that are filled completely with electrolyte (for which a Services Packaging Instruction Sheet (SPIS) shall be raised).
