Def Stan 00-40 (ARMP-1) is the basis for achieving the required availability and mission success during the in-Service phase of military material by emphasizing Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) work during the design stage. The requirements of Def Stan 00-40, in whole or in part, can be made contractual during the design and development stages.
Appendix A to Def Stan 00-40 (Part 1) lists specific R&M tasks which form part of the design and development programme. This document Def Stan 00-41, describes those tasks in greater detail and contains information about tasks additional to those listed Def Stan 00-40 (Part 1). While describing the lements of the R&M programme, this document is not intended to be used as a text book and therefore does not include detailed descriptions of the statistical principles involved. The reader is directed to the published literature on the subject.
