This specification covers cast iron surface plates for general inspection and layout work.
This specification does not include all types, grades, and sizes of cast iron surface plates which are commercially available, but only those generally used by the Federal Government.
Surface plates covered by this specification shall be of the following types and grades, as specified (see 6.2):
Type I-Single surface. Grade A-Fine scraped. Grade B-Scraped. Grade C-Fine planed. Grade D-Planed. Grade E-Ground. Type II-Double surface. Grade A-Fine scraped. Grade B-Scraped. Grade E-Ground.
intended Use:
The surface plates covered by this specification are for use in inspection and layout work and to provide a true and rigid surface for assembly work.
