INTRODUCTION

An amended version of ASME Y14.5M-1994 (Dimensioning and Tolerancing) has been adopted by the Strategic Standardization Management (SSM) committee of the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) for use in Ford Motor Company, Chrysler Corporation and General Motors and their Suppliers for all engineering drawings. The amendments are detailed under 3. REQUIREMENTS below. The latest issue of ASME Y14.5M-1994 is appended to this Standard.

ASME Y14.5.1M-1994 (Mathematical Definition of Dimensioning and Tolerancing Principles) has been adopted by Ford Motor Company as the mathematical definition of ASME Y14.5M-1994. The latest issue of ASME Y14.5.1M-1994 is appended to this standard.

Many Standards referenced in ASME Y14.5M-1994 and ASME Y14.5.1M-1994 have not been adopted by USCAR and the associated automotive companies. The Ford Motor Company Engineering CAD & Drafting Standard takes precedence, unless otherwise specified.

Application of Standards

For annotating drawings using orthographic projection (see Standard C-5), ASME Y14.5M-1994 will be used.

If a conflict occurs between ASME Y14.5.1M-1994 and ASME Y14.5M-1994, ASME Y14.5M-1994 is to be used.

For annotating all other drawings produced in non-orthographic projection ASME Y14.41-2003 (see Standard D-7) will be used.

The Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts described in ASME Y14.41-2003 take precedence over any other reference standard when working with annotated CAD models. If a conflict occurs with unique concepts introduced by the ASME Y14.41-2003 and concepts existing in ASME Y14.5M-1994 or any other adopted standard, ASME Y14.41-2003 is to be used.

All issues pertaining to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) are referred to, and approved by, the Ford Motor Company GDT Technical Committee (Ford GDT TC) prior to submission to the Ford Motor Company Engineering CAD and Drafting Standards Committee for inclusion in this standard.
