scope:
This specification contains requirements for an automatic dehydrator for use in low pressure air systems. The dehydrator shall remove particulate matter, aerosols (see 6.5) and water vapor from influent low pressure air and furnish clean, dry air as specified herein for use in pressurizing radar equipment, waveguide transmission systems, steam propulsion plant control systems, operating automatic combustion control and other special low pressure air applications. The dehydrator shall be designed for both continuous and intermittent operation. The word "dehydrator" denotes the entire complex of equipment throughout this specification.
Dehydrators are classified as follows:
The dehydrator shall be of the following types, as specified (see 6.2.1):
Type I - Refrigeration. Type II - Heater self-reactivating desiccant.
The nominal capacity (nominal effluent air flow rate) for the dehydrator shall be of the following classes as specified (see 6.2.1):
Class 3 - 30 standard cubic feet per minute (ft3/min). Class 5 - 100 ft3 /min. Class 7 - Special, nominal capacity as specified (see 6.2.1).
