This dash-numbered part of the Automated Engineering Document Preparation System, MIL-STD-35, covers detailed requirements of Thermocouples.

The purpose of this dash-numbered part of MIL-STD-35 is to provide a requester necessary information to properly prepare a request for a Thermocouple Military Specification Exception (MSE).

The requester will find it impossible to complete an SRS using only this dash-numbered part of MIL-STD-35. Specification Requirements which are standard for all generic names have been included in the master document at the issuance of MIL-STD-35C. These specification requirements are not repeated in each dash-numbered part. The following list contains subjects from MIL-STD-35 which are pertinent to every dash-number part unless otherwise excepted.

The title of a generated MSE must be selected from one of the titles listed in the Military Specification Exception Title Index (see 1.4.2). If a suitable title is not found in the Military Specification Exception Title Index, a request should be forwarded to USAMICOM, ATTN: AMSMI-RCS, along with the desired title, and the related document. A code will be assigned and the code, title, and related document will be made a part of the Military Specification Exceptions Title Index. The requester will be notified of the code assigned.

One of the six-digit characteristic value codes, listed in the MSE TITLE CODE column of the Military Specification Exception Title Index, entered on a Specification Requirements Sheet (SRS), will specify that the title of the MSE will be the title shown with that code in the index. Each MSE title listed in the index is compatible with the document(s) listed with that title in the RELATED DOCUMENT column. The list may or may not be a complete listing.

The information contained in the RELATED DOCUMENT COVERAGE column is intended for the requester's reference; when more than one document is listed for a title, this information will be found useful in determining which of the documents is most suitable for use as the applicable General Specification.

The MSE title uses the basic federal item name listed in Cataloging Handbook H6. Titles with additional modifying and identifying words are provided to assist a designer in defining the scope of the MSE. To allow the designer flexibility, the title is generally not as restrictive as the basic specification to which the exception is taken. The reverse AEDPS Title comprises the words that will appear in the Scope paragraph (1.1) of the MSE.

If the item selected from the AEDPS document becomes an item of supply, then the Cataloging Handbook H6 nomenclature must be used.

The MSE title may or may not be the same as the title used in DODISS, FIIG or the document to which the MSE document was written. Documents referenced in the MSE that will be listed in the Applicable Documents paragraph (2.1) of the MSE will be identified by the exact title that appears on the referenced document. The title written on the MSE or in DODISS or FIIG will not be entered in paragraph 2.1.

The Military Specification Exception Title Index is as follows:
