This Standard covers the general requirements for inspection and testing of ingots, continuous cast billets and slabs, and wrought steel for stressed applications (see Note) in the following forms:

blooms, billets, and slabs

black bars

bright bars

wire

plates and sections (excluding amour plate)

sheet and strip

tubes

forgings

Note: For the purpose of this Standard stressed applications is an application for which the Design Authority has specified mininum mechanical properties either directly in numerical form, or by calling up a grade of steel which has such specified minimum properties.

It also covers the minimum requirements for the acceptance of mall quantities of the steel both at makers' works and at stockists, and for the preparation and retention of inspection records and quality assurance documents.

This specification is invoked when it is quoted in the contract, order or the material specification. The procedures defined herein are for use in conjunction with the requirements of the material or group system specification quoted in a contract or order and which is therefore mandatory, and this Standard defines how the material requirements are to be checked.
