I. SUMMARY
The aim of this project was to identify fitting designs which reduced wear caused by sand erosion. The results of this project show that fitting geometry or upstream pipe diameter increase can minimize erosion if reasonable size and weight allowances can be made. Wear resistant materials and coatings (such as polyurethane) showed promise for reducing wear. However, more work is needed before a suitable fitting can be made commercially available.
