SCOPE. This Management Instruction applies to medical payload experiments as well as Detailed Supplementary Objectives and includes preflight, in-flight, and postflight data.

PURPOSE. This Management Instruction establishes a policy for protecting the privacy of data collected during voluntary medical research involving active, inactive, or retired space flight crew members and for ground-based and in-flight data collection. This addresses the protection of the privacy of the crew member's data, as well as the protection of NASA's interests for safety of flight by allowing the collection of data necessary for the development of countermeasures to the adverse effects of space flight on human physiology.
