SCOPE AND PURPOSE

This guide is intended to provide users and potential users of the Defence Standard Serial, Time Division, Command/Response Multiplex Data Bus (DEP STAN 00-18 (PART 2)) with an understanding of its back-ground, characteristics and potential. CHAPTER 2 provides a clause by clause interpretation of the Standard.

Users of this guide are potentially considered to fall into the fol-lowing general categories:

• Project Managers

• Equipment and Component Suppliers

• Constructors and System Designers

The information contained in this guide is provided to assist the above users of the data bus by presenting both descriptive and practical detail concerning it. Initially the detail has been obtained largely from the US Multiplex Applications Handbook, 1 May 1980 issued by the US Department of the Air Force (HQ ASD/ENASD) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Only the detail considered useful from the above is included, however, the US document can be used for reference purposes if required. Detail relevant to all other aspects of the Standard has been generated by relevant DTSC Working Groups. Aa more information becomes available from UR sources, material will be added to supplement the initial detail to give the results of practical experience gained in the use and application of the data bus.

In order to provide some detail at the earliest oppportunity, the first issue of this guide contains limited information and includes all the currently envisaged Chapters in heading form.
