The equipment is designed to be rugged and compact, suitable for portable operation in tactical communications field locations (exposed) and for use in shelters and vans. It operates with the Digital Secure Voice Terminal (DSVT) KY-68 and the Digital Non-secure Voice Terminal (DNVT) TA-954/TT as a loop input/output via Telephone Cable WF-16. The unit also provides power feed to the voice terminals. The group input/output is compatible with the Multiplexer-Combiner, TD-1234(P)/TCC, the Modem, Cable Driver, MD-1025/G and the Modem, Digital Data, MD-1026(P)/G.

The equipment is designed to time division multiplex/demultiplex up to 4 analog or conditioned diphase loops into/from a 4-½ channel group. A half-rate channel is allocated to overhead information including a 2/4 kb/s framing subchannel and a 2 kb/s telemetry subchannel. The group input/output is a conditioned diphase signal suitable for operation over CX-11230 cable. The equipment is capable of being powered from the group cable. An analog voice orderwire is provided for setup and maintenance of the CX-11230 group cable system. The 2 kb/s telemetry channel is looped back.
