FOREWORD
Congratulations! You are looking at the new International Approval Services (IAS) Directory of certified appliances and accessories. This directory has a new look and a new name and it provides you with the same type of information provided in previous directories published by American Gas Association (A.G.A.) Laboratories and Canadian Gas Association (CGA). The major enhancement of this directory is that listings for both U.S. and Canadian appliances and accessories are now combined in a single reference guide.
International Approval Services is a joint venture of the American Gas Association and the Canadian Gas Association. Effective January 1, 1996, A.G.A. Laboratories was renamed IAS US. and CGA Approvals was renamed IAS Canada. The two IAS companies are wholly owned subsidiaries of their respective trade associations and are licenced by the associations to issue their certification marks. Personnel, facilities and testing capabilities remain unchanged, but with the added benefits of improved service and efficiency. This collaboration of two globally recognized certification organizations enables one-stop certification of products destined for distribution throughout North American markets and the rest of the world.
This Directory lists all gas fired, electric and oil fired appliance and accessory designs certified by IAS through the A.G.A. and CGA certification programs. It supersedes all previously issued A.G.A. Laboratories and CGA Approvals Directories. The IAS Directory will be published in January and July of each year.
Designs included in this Directory were found to comply with applicable national standards or requirements at the time of the certification program and are design certified. A firm's listing does not imply that all of its products have been certified - only those model numbers listed have been design certified.
A Special Announcements section contains information on safety related product recalls or cases of noncompliance with certified designs. These special announcements are called "Notices" and they provide detailed information about the specific designs affected. Typically, a Notice is in the Directory until 18 months after final resolution of the safety related situation.
The Directory lists certified appliance and accessory models produced andior marketed by listees under their name. An "appliance" is generally considered a self-contained device, such as a furnace, water heater or range. An "accessory" is a device or material used to conduct gas or which is used in conjunction with an appliance such as valves, thermostats, draft hoods, conversion kits, or pipe sealants. Indices in the rear of the Directory contain alphabetical listings of listees offering certified products and a trade name index allows cross referencing when only trade name information is known.
