This instruction implements AFPD 91-1, Nuclear Weapons and Systems Surety. It defines the process for obtaining nuclear safety design certification of hardware, software, procedures and facilities used with nuclear weapon systems. It applies to organizations that design, develop, modify, evaluate, or operate nuclear weapon systems. It does not apply to the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. Send proposed supplements to this instruction to HQ AFSC/SEW, 9700 G Avenue, Kirtland AFB NM 87117-5670, for coordination and approval before publication. Attachment 1 lists abbreviations and acronyms used in this instruction. Ensure that all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in accordance with AFPD 37-1, Information Management and AFMAN 37-123, Management of Records, and disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition Schedule (RDS) located at https://webrims.amc.af.mil.
