Purpose and Scope

This standard specifies how Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) Short Messages Service may be used to deliver teleservices between Enhanced General Packet Radio Service-136 (EGPRS-136) mobile stations (MS) and TIA/EIA-136 message centers. This standard introduces the functions of the Interworking Function Message Center (IWF_MC) which provides the interface between the TIA/EIA-136 Message Center and the Gateway MSC for Short Message Service (SMS-GMSC)/Intenvorking MSC for Short Message Service (SMS-IWMSC). This standard also specifies the functions within the EGPRS-136 MS that are necessary to support TIA/EIA-136 Teleservice delivery over the GSM Short-Message Service. All other functions of the EGPRS-136 MS relating to specific teleservice applications and other data delivery are beyond the scope of this standard.

If the requirements of this standard conflict with the requirements of referenced standards, this standard shall govern.
