This specification is intended to cover several aluminum bronze arc welding electrodes of various alloys. Classes MIL-E-CuAL-B are primarily used for joining aluminum bronzes, high strength copper zinc alloys, many ferrous metals and combinations of dissimilar metals. Specification class MIL-E-CuAL-A when higher tensile strength is required and lower ductility is not objectionable. Both classes are also used for corrosion and wear resistance and as overlay material where Brinell hardnesses between 120 and 180 are desired. Classes MIL-E-CuAL-C, MIL-E-CuAL-D and MIL-E-CuAL-E are intended for overlays where good bearing qualities and wear resistance are desired. The class to use should be determined by the service requirements, the harder grades having higher compressive strength but lower ductility than the softer grades.
