Addenda to B30.16-1998 Overhead Hoists (Underhung)

scope:
Within the general scope defined in Section I of the Introduction, B30.16 applies to all manually operated and power-operated hoists for vertical lifting service involving materials handling of freely suspended (un-guided) loads, comprising hoist types of the following:
(a) manually operated hoists actuated by a hand chain and utilizing chain as the lifting medium (see Figs. 1 and 2);
(b) electric- and air-powered hoists using either chain or rope as the lifting medium (see Figs. 3 through 7).
Manually operated ratchet lever devices (not being overhead hoists) are not included in this volume.
Hoists used for purposes listed below require additional considerations, provisions, and features that are not included in this volume:
(a) lifting personnel;
(b) lifting guided loads;
(c) lifting or moving non-vertical loads; and
(d) drawing both the load and the hoist up or down the load chain(s) or rope(s) of the hoist.
