DEFINITION OF ALTERATION

Concession and Production Permit which covers deviations applicable to all, or some, of the articles being supplied under the contract.

Modification which affects the design/specification and which will apply not only to all, or some, of the articles being supplied under the contract, but to all future requirements. A procedure has been evolved, in which an Equipment Modification (hereinafter referred to as a Modification) is generally defined as any change to, or rectification or, the design of an· equipment, machine, assembly, sub-assembly, component, assooiated spare gear or maintenance tools. It rectifies omissions or shortcomings in design, to improve reliability and/or safety, to facilitate manufacture or to reduce future maintenance. The design of the first production unit to. leave the Contractor is the "starting point" after which changes of design are called Modifications; earlier changes will not be subject to this procedure.
