scope:
This standard covers the minimum requirements for centrifugal pumps used in petroleum refinery service. This standard is also applicable to hydraulic power recovery turbines.
Although this standard covers minimum requirements appropriate for petroleum refinery service, purchasers may wish to consider pumps that do not meet all the requirements of this standard, based on specific nonflammable, nontoxic service conditions. Typical pumps for such applications include the following:
a. Horizontal end-suction (or vertical in-line) single-stage pumps with cast iron or high-alloy casings.
b. Single-stage double-suction pumps with axially split cast iron casings.
c. Vertical bowl-type pumps with cast iron or bronze casings.
Typical application limits for such pumps and guidelines for invoking various requirements are given in Appendix A.
Note: A round bullet (•) at the beginning of a paragraph indicates that either a decision is required or further information is to be provided by the purchaser. This information should be indicated on the data sheets (see Appendix B); otherwise it should be stated in the quotation request or in the order. A triangular bullet (A) at the beginning of a paragraph indicates that the paragraph does not apply to all pump types, Table C-2, Appendix C, indicates which pump types are not covered by each paragraph with a triangular bullet.
