scope:

This Standard defines the requirements for cloths and narrow fabrics made mainly from asbestos, and intended for Ministry of Defence usage where rib suitable alternative exists.

Usage of these items is confined to the following:

High pressure gaskets and packing on vehicle and aerospace engines.

Insulation on pipes and ducts where the required properties cannot be met by the use of safer alternatives.

Fire curtains.

Usage must be sanctioned by the appropriate Design Authority, and their authority must be quoted on aZZ requests for new stocks.

Finished cloth particulars are defined in Table I including performance limits required of the cloth when tested by the methods prescribed in this Standard.
