This NES specifies the requirements for five synthetic rubber vulcanizates of the butadiene acrylonitrile type with high acrylonitrile content, intended for use in the production of items such as sheets, washers, strip, gaskets, moulded articles and wrapped tubing for applications where extreme resistance to organic liquids, such as hydrocarbon fuels and oils, is required, and where some stiffening at temperatures below -10° C can be tolerated.

These compounds are essentially complementary to those covered by BS 2751, and are to be used for instances where the latter show insufficient oil resistance. The hardness range figures for each compound are detailed in TABLE SCOPE.1.
