1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers the determination of chlorine, bromine, or iodine in organic compounds by the oxygen flask technique (Schöniger technique). This test method is applicable to solids and to liquids that are nonvolatile at room temperature. The maximum amount of sample that may be burned is 0.1 g, but each sample type should be tested in order to determine the best conditions.

1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.

1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Notes 1 and 2 and Section 8.
